MSU guarantees admission for students who meet the qualifications and apply to a residential college

What is Assured Admission?
The Assured Admission program guarantees admission to MSU for prospective first-year students who meet the program's qualifications and apply to one of our three residential colleges by Nov. 1, 2024.Students will receive a follow up email asking them to confirm their participation in Assured Admission.
Residential colleges are small colleges within the university where you attend classes in the same building where you live with students in similar academic programs. Residential colleges are a great way to make close friends and get personalized attention and resources throughout your education.
Choose from three residential colleges at MSU
Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH)
For students interested in literature, history, ethics, visual and performing arts, and languages and cultures of the world
James Madison College
For students interested in the political, legal, social and economic issues affecting the world
Lyman Briggs College
For students interested in natural sciences and mathematics, as well as the history, philosophy and sociology of science
Assured Admission criteria
First-year student
Be an incoming first-year student
3.3 GPA
Have a minimum 3.3 GPA on official high school transcripts

How to apply
Select a residential college
Start your MSU application through the Common, Coalition, or the official MSU application. When asked for your major preference on the MSU application, select the residential college you plan to attend.
- Residential College in the Arts and Humanities: Select “Arts and Humanities”
- James Madison College: Select "James Madison College"
- Lyman Briggs College: Select "Lyman Briggs"

Submit your application to MSU no later than Nov. 1, 2024, to receive Assured Admission.

FAQs
Can I defer my admission to a future semester with Assured Admission?
No, students applying for Assured Admission must enroll at MSU for the upcoming fall semester.
I'm no longer interested in having a residential college major. Can I change my major?
If you have applied via Assured Admission and are not yet enrolled at MSU, it may be possible to change your major to a non-residential college major. However, depending on your major choice, your application may need be reviewed to determine your eligibility for regular admission. If your application is reevaluated for regular admission, you will no longer be guaranteed admission as part of the Assured Admission program.
Can I change my residential college major after enrollment?
After submitting the application, fall first-year applicants who applied for Assured Admission are required to remain in the selected residential college major for their first year of attendance at MSU. If you wish to change your major after you have been admitted, you may contact the Office of Admission to do so. However, your application may be subject to additional review for regular admission. Admission would no longer be guaranteed to a different major.
